Filipino Basketball Association of Durham ( FBAD ) was founded on November 2004 by parents with the objective of promoting DISCIPLINE, RESPECT, CAMARADERIE, SPORTMANSHIP and FAIR PLAY to the Filipino youth in the Durham community through the game of basketball. It is FBAD's intention to provide an avenue for kids to learn the game of basketball in a friendly and family oriented environment.
FBA of Durham is a registered, non-profit organization.
In 2005, FBA of Durham house league started with 6 teams in two divisions. Today, the organization is managing six divisions with four teams per division with players as young as 6 years old boys and girls up to the Open / Senior division. FBAD is proud to provide an opportunity for kids to play organized basketball who otherwise may not get a chance to play at all. Most players reside in Durham Region which includes the cities of Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Scugog and Brooklin. The league has also attracted players from neighbouring cities of Scarborough, Toronto, Markham and Richmond Hill. The FBA of Durham house league has continued to grow under the strong leadership and direction from President , the Officers and numerous volunteers.
FBA of Durham and its officers strongly believe in fair play and strict adherence to the rules and regulations in league and tournament competitions. Promoting fair play in basketball results in unity and enjoyment among the players and everyone involved in the game.
Aside from the Spring House League which runs annually from March to June, FBA of Durham has participated in numerous tournaments and other leagues in the Greater Toronto Area and in the US for the past five years. This provides an avenue for elite basketball players to showcase their athleticism in a competitive setting. Tournament participation is an all year round activity for FBAD officers and members. Participation in NBA half time game at Air Canada Centre. FBAD is a proud member of the Filipino Basketball Association of North America ( FBA-NA ).
